Quadro Celebrates Completion of St. Marys Fibre Project
Quadro is pleased to announce the Town of St. Marys is the first municipality in Southwestern Ontario to have a fully fibre optic infrastructure for telecommunications. This 10-million-dollar, fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) project was originally announced in January of 2019, with construction of the infrastructure being completed on schedule in late summer 2021.
Quadro is able to offer every resident and business in St. Marys internet speeds up to 1 Gigabit (the gold standard of internet speed), with a dedicated fibre optic line run directly to each premise. This means no sharing the line with your neighbour or slow speeds during peak usage times. With the introduction of Qtv from Quadro, St. Marys customers are able to enjoy both blazing fast internet and the newest TV features through this future-proof technology.
Though the COVID-19 pandemic has hindered the teams ability to celebrate this milestone in person, St. Marys Mayor, Al Strathdee noted, “The Town of St. Marys is excited to be one of the first small communities in Canada to be fully built out with a fibre optic network. We are grateful for the investment that Quadro Communications has made in our community. We are now able to offer first class internet service to residents that will support those who work from a home office.”
What is Fibre Optics? Fibre optics is a glass strand (comparable in size to a human hair) designed to guide light along its length. When used in communication applications, fibre optics permit transmission over longer distances and at higher data rates than other forms of communications. Fibre is less susceptible to potential disruptions from inclement weather or other interference. If there is a service disruption it is often easier to diagnose and resolve the issue. As your neighbour in the community Quadro will be on-site quickly should a problem arise.
John DeHeer, General Manager of Quadro Communications stated “We are thrilled to be able to offer State-of-the-art communication technologies to the residents and businesses of St. Marys. Being a local company which employs local people, is another way Quadro can give back to the areas we serve. That is why we use the tag line ‘We’re local, just like you’.
