HISTORY HIGHLIGHT
What a difference 60 years make!
Taken in 1964, below are switchboard operators from the Blanshard Municipal Telephone System (Quadro's founding company).
A switchboard operator was a person who manually connected calls by plugging and unplugging cords on the switchboard. The role of the switchboard and operator was important because they were responsible for connecting callers with the correct party and ensuring that calls were completed correctly. They also provided assistance with making long-distance calls, directory assistance, and other services related to the use of the telephone network.
Dial up the memories! The heyday of the rotary dial telephone spanned from the mid-1950s until the 1980s. The era of the push button phone was born in 1963. And in 1984, the installation in the Kirkton exchange of the DMS-10 switch allowed for the conversion from dial to digital. It wasn’t long after that our other exchanges were converted. A big advancement at the time.
Co-operative Young Leaders
Quadro is committed to sending up to three youth (age 14-18) to this program annually, paying the Sponsor Fees for the individuals.
Co-operative Young Leaders (CYL) is a series of week long summer camps for young people ages 13 to 18. This unique experiential learning program brings together youth from across Ontario, to learn and play in a safe and secure environment. CYL empowers youth to be explorers, trailblazers and visionaries, while equipping them with the change-making tools and skills they need to succeed in the world.
